Predicting an early Blue whale season with record numbers!

April and May, 2024, have seen some of the best whale sightings in years dominated by numerous fin whales. Almost the entire month of April, typically dedicated to covering shallow water close to the beach looking for migrating gray whale cow/calf pairs, saw impressive numbers and consistency of fin whales further off the coast. Nick, coastal waters along Newport Beach and Laguna Beach have filled with an abundant supply of anchovies bringing with them a variety of whales – fin whales, humpback whales, brydes whales and minke whales. Whale and Dolphin Watching report Newport Beach June 2020

‘June Heat’ aboard East Meets West Excursions had excellent sightings throughout the month – Numerous humpback whales, lots of minke whales, a blue whale, and finished the month off with a cow/calf pair of brydes whales the past 2 days in a row. Dolphin trifecta yesterday morning with Risso’s dolphins, offshore bottlenose dolphins, common dolphins and 8-10 minke whales all in same general area, a humpback whale and cow/calf brydes whales. It’s been a unique month with diverse sightings.
